P E R S O N A L I T Y Bridget is a nice enough girl. Ask anyone and they'll tell you that she's charming and glee-filled with an easy laugh. And most of the time, she is. Friendly, if not a bit peculiar; she tries hard to keep that persona up as much as possible. Though, sometimes her other side shows through. Her odd side. Some days she is the bubbly girl mentioned above, and others, she can be almost opposite. Quiet, withdrawn, nervous-- these are also traits that the girl is known to exhibit. Rarely, but its there, underneath everything. Her friends can see it, under her smiles, under her giggle-- there's an uncertain twitch to her posture. And she knows it, which is why she tries not to let people get too close. She has friends, of course- she's a teenage girl, how could she not? But she doesn't let her guard down around them. And she's very, very careful about the opposite sex. In fact, boys who don't know her very well might describe Bridget as shy, uncomfortable, and even prudish. (Though, some tend to call it being a tease.) And she is.

Mostly unaware of male advances, there are times when she recognizes an obvious flirt. Occasionally, she'll flirt back, but in a withholding sort of way. She certainly won't give them any wrong ideas. The last thing on her mind is to gain the romantic attentions of the male populus, though, with her looks, its sometimes hard not to. She knows that its proper to find a mate, and get married, but its really the last thing on her mind. Bridget is much more concerned with other things, to ever get caught up in the trivial drama of school relationships. Even though she'd been in a few before, she found them all to be grating wastes of time. The farthest she's ever let any boy go is holding her hand. Boys, she's managed to convince herself, are only after one thing, and if that one thing isn't friendship, it must be something else.

Books and charms-- those are Bridget's boy alternatives. Schoolwork is a surefire way to keep her mind at bay, so whenever she's upset, you'll find a text in close proximity. She passed most of her OWLs with flying colors, turns in assignments on time, and often does her own extra research to better understand the material. The only reason she isn't head of the class is because Bridget is much to preoccupied with Charms to ever worry about the other classes she's in. Definitely the most talented with wand work, she's been invited to the Slug Club many times. But she'd rather spend her free moments inventing new spells than attending boring meetings where the members are solely based on their accomplishments or blood connections.

Bridget doesn't think its fair to exclude people for their normalcy. Not everyone, she recognizes, is special. Some people are frighteningly average, and on occasion, she's wished she could be as well. But she isn't, nor will she ever be. Being the daughter of a private practise Healer has turned her paranoid and proud. She's scared of illness, though too good for the hospital wing. She hardly admits to feeling under the weather, having learned to tough it out in even the worst of situations. Bridget could be on her death bed, coughing up her lungs, and she would deny any trip to the school's nurse. The idea of being poked and prodded and under someone's watchful eye literally sickens her and she often gets the false impression that everyone is out to get her-- something she believes she's quite justified in feeling.

She doesn't share this with anyone though. Most of her deepest secrets and thoughts are kept to herself. Its not that she's not trusting (though, she doesn't trust many people), she just prefers to keep her private things to herself. Voicing her fears makes them that much more tangible. Talking about things, in Bridget's mind, just gives them the opportunity to bother her, and that's something she deems out of the question. She's very concerned with the image she upholds. She has to appear strong, committed, and sane-- though, sometimes she slips. After her second year, she joined the Ravenclaw Quidditch team as a Seeker. Her father suggested physical activity as a good way to clear her head. Even though nothing soothes her quite like reading, Bridget stuck with the team, finding the fresh air blowing through her locks rather refreshing. Up in the air, she could be anything she wanted. No one could bother her as she zoomed through the air searching for the golden ball with wings. At first, she forgot she was playing and simply closed her eyes for long periods of time. But when the captain threatened to replace her in her third year, she realized she had to stop that. Occasionally, she can be found on the pitch, zooming around in the air, eyes closed, alone.

In short, Bridget is accepting, loyal, honest, opinionated, real, unconcerned with trivialities, weary, suspicious, odd, friendly, and, of course, intelligent.

H I S T O R Y Bridget's family, like most, started when her parents met. I could get into the older generations, but, for the sake of keeping this relatively simple, lets just say her father, Clark came from a long line of Healers. Her mother, Anne, came from decades of muggles. The two met, like most wizards, at Hogwarts. Only two years apart, Clark the elder, they waited nearly 5 years before finally getting married.

It was 1951. Spring. Their wedding was beautiful, and Anne was only 20 at the time. The couple bought a lovely house (with inheritence) in Edinburgh near the water. It had an ocean view, and a precious garden in the front, fenced in with a swing, that Anne loved to sit in and read. Clark opened his own private practise after settling in, and his wife went to work as his secretary.

After a year, the two had their first son. Charles, after Anne's father, though he was nicknamed Casey. It was a perfect life. Their son was raised babied by his mother, treated with special care as most couples do their only child. He got everything he ever wanted. Though, at age 6, he recieved the one thing he didn't want: a baby sister.

Bridget was born in 1959, much to the surprise of the Enders'. She wasn't unwanted by Clark or Anne, but she wasn't planned. That didn't change their treatment of her, though. If anything, she was doted on far more than Casey ever was. Of course, she was the baby, and everyone knows that the baby of the family is the favourite. And there were no more children after Bridget, Clark made sure of that.

Growing up with a brother 6 years older than her wasn't easy for Bridget. Everything he did, she wanted to do. When he got a toy broomstick, she wanted one, though she was too small to use it. When Casey got to go to work with Clark, Bridget wanted to go to work with Clark. When Casey walked to the beach alone, Bridget wanted to go with him. He always said no. Having a shadow was not something that appealed to Casey. He resented Bridget. He disliked nearly everything about her from her pale blue eyes, to the way she hobbled after him. 'Course, everyone said they made such a pair. Constantly being compared to one another because of their similar looks, it was enough to make anyone hate the other. But Bridget hero worshipped her brother, and as much as he disliked having her around, he was always there to defend her if she got into a thick mess. Brothers were like that.

In her 5th year of living, Bridget was rather distressed to find that her brother would be leaving her for a long time. He was accepted at Hogwarts, and he was very excited to go. She was not, however, and for several days after September 1, she cried for his return. He never wrote her a single letter, either. It was heart breaking for the little girl. She quickly bounced back, though. Her mother began homeschooling her soon after that, and Bridget became fascinated with the world of literature. By age 7, she was reading at a very advanced level. Though, she couldn't always grasp the meaning of some of her mother's novels, she certainly enjoyed them. It wasn't until her brother came home on holidays that she found the pleasure in texts. Charms, she soon came to realize, were terribly interesting. And she soon spent any and all free time reading all about them.

The summer of her 8th year, however, Bridget's life took a dark turn. Her brother was home for the summer hols, new and different than he was any other year. He'd recently turned 14 and come across a few new friends in his class. Casey had ideas-- about life, about school, about women. Bridget's eight year old mind couldn't understand his obsession with the opposite sex, and she often found herself trying to avoid him as he'd taken to looking at her oddly and asking her uncomfortable questions everytime they were in the same room alone.

You can imagine the frightful experience I'm going to relay next. Bridget found herself locked in a room one night while her brother was babysitting her. She was in a nightgown, frightened, as her brother advanced on her. The only boy, besides her father that she'd ever trusted. And because of that trust, I suppose, she allowed him to do what he did. Not sex. Nothing penetrated anything. Casey wasn't that stupid. But there was touching, and tears, and things that Bridget didn't understand going on in both of their bodies. She felt icky afterwards, and ashamed. And most of all, she felt betrayed by her brother. Angry-- at herself and him for what had happened, and what she let happen. Though, of course, she didn't really grasp the weight of it until years later when she thought back.

There was really nothing a defenseless small girl could do, apart from scream when no one could hear her. And even then, screaming only meant that she knew something was wrong, and she didn't at the time. Only when Casey told her that what he forced her to do was wrong, and that he'd tell her parents and get her in trouble, did she even begin to realize. Her brother was a sick person. And she was a victim.

It happened on more than one occasion that year, though, not again after he returned for his 5th year at school. Her parents knew nothing. And they couldn't understand why Bridget suddenly didn't want to be touched. They couldn't figure out why the girl who once looked at her brother like a hero now avoided his gaze at all times. When they were in the same room, she stared at the wall or the floor until one of them left. His presence alone made her uneasy.

Bridget never came home on holidays, choosing instead to stay at Hogwarts away from Casey. He still lives at home. And she still hasn't talked about the events of her 8th year to anyone. Though, she is very obviously still reaping the consequences.

Still, apart from that, Bridget has successfully managed to develop into a fairly decent woman. She's maintained the drive for knowledge that she posessed in her early years, become a prefect and rolemodel for several of the younger students, and kept up a spot on the Quidditch team.

O T H E R Bridget is a prefect, is president of the Charms club, has invented a few spells, is the future Mrs. Lovegood, and dies in a Charms accident while she's experimenting from her home for the Ministry. Her only daughter Luna, witnesses her death.
